Memorial Day Weekend: Polka Run & Fun Friends

A few weeks ago I decided to run the Polka Run 5k and I've been training on my lunch breaks and during the weekends.  The Polka Fest is always over Memorial Day weekend and the run is on Saturday before Memorial Day.  Before Saturday I hadn't run more than 2.5 miles at one time but I figured my adrenaline would help and it did!

Getting ready to start!

My cheering section

Emily and Matt did the 10k!

All done!  Finished in 37 minutes and 10 seconds.  Not bad for my first 5k!

It was tough, but I did it!  Next year, the 10k is mine!

Since it was Memorial Day weekend, Lauren and Mark came to visit!  They had been in Galveston earlier in the week for a babymoon and they ended their trip by coming to see us!!

Friday night we went to dinner and I had to get a picture with my bestie!

Saturday the guys headed to the lease to do some fishing and Lauren and I went into Waxahachie to do a little shopping downtown.  We had lunch at the Dove's Nest, looked at the cute little boutiques, and went into Lowe's to see if they had a rug for Caroline's nursery.  And they did!  Success!!  Saturday night we had steaks at the house and enjoyed hanging out.

Sunday, Henderson and I took Mark and Lauren to our fave brunch spot - Hattie's!

We did some more shopping in Dallas and then headed home to eat Marlboro Man Sandwiches - love those!!  It was such a great weekend catching up before Caroline makes her arrival!  Can't wait to meet her!!

24 Day Challenge: Day 0

Tomorrow is an exciting day around the King house, we're starting the Advocare 24-Day Challenge...both of us!  I have actually done the challenge twice before (while trying to lose weight for the wedding).  I felt that it was so great in helping me lose weight and start eating right.  But after we got married and I finally got my own kitchen, I developed a hobby: cooking the most fattening foods imaginable.  I'm really excited about jump-starting our healthy eating.  So, today I went grocery shopping so we could have healthy foods around the house.

On the list:
Eggs
Carrots
Shrimp
Salmon
Chicken
Apples
Celery
Romaine Lettuce (I'm excited to use these long leaves as wraps for mayo-less chicken salad)
Zucchini and Squash
Protein Bars
Orange Juice (I never drink OJ - it doesn't agree with me - but it helps me with the fiber drink)
Avocados
Celery
Salad Stuff
Pistachios
Almonds
Fresh Corn
Brown Rice
Edamame

So, with tomorrow being Day 1, I have packed our snacks and meals for the day.  I hope to be able to blog each day what we're eating/drinking/exercising.  We also joined a gym today!  So, tomorrow at 5 am, hopefully, we'll be there with bells on!
