Last Wednesday, Henderson and I headed to Albuquerque for the American Association of Bovine Practitioners Conference. Goals: learning (Henderson), shopping and relaxing (me). Our plane didn't leave until close to 9 Wednesday night so we got in pretty late, for me anyway. Thursday morning, Henderson headed to the conference to check-in and then came back so that we could head out to lunch.
We went to Old Town and did some souvenir shopping (you know I had to get a couple Christmas ornaments!) and we ended up at High Noon Restaurant and Saloon for lunch!

I had the shrimp enchiladas and Henderson had the beef short ribs. So good!!
We headed back to the hotel where I took a nap and Henderson headed to the conference to learn!
I met him later for dinner and the opening ceremonies where he was presented with the Dr. Bruce Wren Continuing Education award! I could not be prouder of my husband. This award will enable him to learn more about embryo transfer in cattle. To apply for the award, his clients and his boss had to write letters. Corsicana clients love Henderson and it's evidenced by this award and the emails the clinic gets about him. I'm so proud of his passion and dedication to veterinary medicine.
I was still hungry so we grabbed drinks (my first glass of wine since before chemo!) and these onion rings at the hotel bar!

Friday Henderson had classes all day so I headed to ABQ Uptown, an upscale outdoor shopping center. I started with lunch at California Pizza Kitchen. I've really been craving pizza lately but tomato sauce does not taste good, nor is it good for me to have during chemo. So I was able to get a spinach and artichoke pizza with chicken, that I subsequently spilled all over my white shirt. Luckily I had a napkin in my lap and the grease spots faded, ha! I then hit up the Michael Kors store where I picked out a few birthday presents and headed over to Pottery Barn where I dreamed of one day furnishing my house from there. I headed back to the hotel where I finished my book "Nineteen Minutes" by Jodi Picoult, and then went to the convention center to meet Henderson for dinner. They had an auction after dinner to raise scholarship money; it was quite entertaining seeing people spend ridiculous amounts of money all for the sake of the students. We actually sat at a table with 8 students and it was fun to hear them talk about going out and trying to secure all the free drink tickets they could!
Saturday, I slept in while Henderson went back for more classes. We met up at Holy Cow for lunch (only fitting since we were in Albuquerque for a cattle conference) where we had some delicious burgers and onion rings. We actually each walked to the restaurant separately and quickly learned that Albuquerque was not made for walking. I got a whistle and two honks - even as a cancer patient, I've still got it!
I headed back to the hotel where I napped, read, and watched some Criminal Minds episodes. I turned on the LSU game just as Henderson was getting back to the hotel. We were up 14-0!! Unfortunately we had dinner reservations at the top of the tram so we had to leave before halftime.

We headed inside to catch some of the game but unfortunately they don't get ESPN on the top of the mountain. Our dinner was full of us refreshing our phones to see what was happening! The High Finance Restaurant has a beautiful view of Albuquerque and I would suggest it as a fun tourist stop. Fortunately we won the game and were able to head back down the tram.
Sunday we didn't really have any plans so we decided to head to the botanical gardens and aquarium. You can go into both for only $12.50 per person.
The botanical gardens had this really cute miniature train. It took up about the size of a football field.
They also had a beautiful butterfly garden area. I had to send a few pictures to Mimi.

The Japanese garden had a huge koi pond with the largest koi fish I've ever seen!
Then we headed to the Shark Reef Cafe which is attached to the aquarium so we got to sit next to the tank.
Next up was actually going through the aquarium. It wasn't anything to write home about but it allowed us to kill some time.
All in all, it was great to get away since we are pretty much homebodies for 2 out of every 3 weekends. We are gearing up for another chemo treatment on Friday (#4). I am not ready at all but gotta do what you gotta do!
